There will hardly be a better film about the power of family. Perhaps this is John Ford's most personal film ever. 90/100

I'll admit I came into this with fairly low expectations. I've never read the book and this just didn't seem like my cup of tea. However, it moves along at a decent pace and it keeps you entertained throughout. Henry Fonda is great as Tom Joad. John Ford, Academy Award for Best Director, shows once again why he's a master. Jane Darwell, as Ma won the Academy Award for Supporting Actress. I saw this on TCM and Robert Osborn said that Ford changed the ending to end on a more upbeat note. I recommend this to all, to see how, with family, you can persevere through all of life's struggles.

Bleak look at one poverty stricken family's cross country trip. I felt the emotional weight of their journey and appreciated the realism in which it was portrayed. Watching this with family members who lived through the Great Depression makes it all the more thoughtful.

A remarkable stark and honest portrayal of human struggles amid poverty. Henry Fonda's down-to-earth portrayal focuses the story on the emotional core of a family making ends meet and doesn't let the film get too political, to its credit.

I didn't really care for this movie. But, since it has the correct political message, I'll give it a few extra points.

The Grapes of Wrath review

"Human being wouldn't live the way they do. Human being couldn't stand to be so miserable." Touching, funny, realistic and a masterpiece. Tom (Fonda) gets paroled and goes looking for his parents. Excellent screenplay with lines from Casy - "I ain't so sure o' things.""Some things folks do is nice and some ain't so nice, and that's all any man's got a right to say." Muley - "Ever'body got to get off." and "That's what make it our'n, bein' born on it,...and workin' on it,...and and dying' on it!" Ma - "They hurt you and you get mad...and then you get mean...and they hurt you again...and you get meaner, and meaner till you ain't no boy or no man any more, but just a walkin' chunk a mean-mad." and from Tom - "Not much but we had it."

Spectacular performances from Jane Darwell and Hen...
